EPU Heater Lockout Reset

EPU Heater Lockout Reset

IMPORTANT: Troubleshooting of heaters should only be carried out by qualified Gas Safe engineers or Electricians.

All unit heaters (suspended from the ceiling) have a lockout reset button. Most controllers (thermostats at ground level) that are installed with unit heater have a lockout reset button on them.

See the section in our FAQ for the relevent controller.

IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to reset the heater more than 3 times, as dangerous fuel mixtures can build up.

There are several reasons why a heaer can lockout. If the heater attempts to light 3 times but fails to maintain a flame, as a fail safe, the heater will go into lockout. If a heater overheats, it will lockout, or if there is a technical fault inside the heater, this will also cause it to lockout.

Lockout: Red Light Permanently On

On the side of the heater, there is a red light. It it is permanently on, the heater has gone into lockout and must be reset.

  • This is done by pressing the black 'reset' button downn for 3 seconds and then releaseing. Most controllers also have a remote reset button; (See the FAQ section relevant to the specific controller)
  • If the heater has reset, the red light will start to flash (blink) on and off every second.

Technical Problem Lockout: Red Light Rapid Flashing

If the red light on the heater is flashing rapidly, this indicates a technical fault inside the heater. To reset the unit:

  • Hold down the reset button for 3 seconds and then release.
  • If the heater has reset, the red light will flash on and off at one second intervals.

Permanent Lockout: The Heater does not Reset after Pressing and Holding Reset Button

Should the red light stay on permanently after pressing and holding the reset button (not flashing/blinking), then the heater has gone into 'Permanent Lockout'

This has happped because the heater has 3 failed attempts to restart in a row.
